    Description

    George Washington Commemorative Coin
This is a solid bronze die struck commemorative coin, measuring 1-1/2" in diameter. There is no date, but I believe it was issued around 1985 and sold at Mount Vernon. While in very good condition, it has slight discoloration. I know coin collectors have special cleaning techniques so I don't want to use anything on it. There are no scratches visible to the naked eye. There may be some very light surface scuffs. The front, with a right facing profile, reads "GEORGE WASHINGTON" and is signed "J.A.HOUDON." Houdon (1741 - 1828) was a famous French sculptor who specialized in portrait busts and statues of philosophers, inventors and political figures. This is most likely a copy of one of his works.
    The back reads:
"MOUNT VERNON, THE HOME OF GEORGE WASHINGTON" and has the more formal view of Mt. Vernon which faces the river.
There is a nicely detailed border around the edge of the coin on both sides.
The coin comes in a plastic case with a hinged lid, with "SOLID BRONZE" printed on the case.
This coin is no longer in production to my knowledge. I will provide free first class USPS delivery within the continental US. I regret I cannot ship internationally. Don't hesitate to email with any questions. Thank you for your interest.
