Description
Up for auction is a vintage Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, Virginia souvenir salt and pepper set made by Paden City Artware. The backstamps are faint but say
PADEN CITY
ARTWARE
W. VA.
The measurements are approximately 4 inches tall (without the corks!), 2-5/8 inches diameter at the bottom, and weigh 5 ¼ and 6-5/8 ounces (the pepper is slightly smaller but heavier).
They are in good, vintage condition – some wear on the gold wording, a few tiny scratches, manufacturing flaws such as stray gold marks, specks and discoloration (next to SALT, on the brown on top) – please look closely at the pictures.
I also see some dark marks on the insides; I did not try to soak them out.
According to my research, Paden City Artware of Paden City, West Virginia was started in 1940 under the name F. and M. Artware (for William Ford and Lyle Mitchell) and changed it’s name in 1956.
Their market was ceramic souvenirs and knick-knacks and many travel destinations nationwide were represented.
They closed their doors in 1985.
Thanks for looking!
PS regarding shipping – I will first pack them in a box, then into a flat rate padded envelope for security and economy.
Thanks!
